HOW DO LOBSTERS GROW?

"A lobster is a soft, squishy animal that lives in a rigid shell. That rigid shell does not expand. Well, how can the lobster grow? As the lobster grows, that shell becomes very confining. And the lobster feels kind of under pressure and uncomfortable. It goes under a rock formation to protect itself from predatory fish, it casts off its shell and produces a new one.

Well, eventually that shall become uncomfortable. It goes under the rock, gets rid of it and it repeats this numerous times.

The stimulus for the lobster to be able to grow is that it feels uncomfortable.

If lobsters would have doctors, they would never grow. Because as soon as the lobster feels uncomfortable goes to the doctor gets a valium, gets a Percocet, feels fine. Never comes off its shell. The thing we have to realize is that times of stress are also times for signals for growth. And if we use adversity properly we can grow through adversity."

These were the words of Rabi and psychiatrist, Dr. Abraham Twerski

Behind every struggle, there is the same amount of treasure.

Using adversity as an agent for growth is a skill. A skill that you can develop. People who are dedicated to growing, seek out tension. They ask to be challenged and they ask to be supported. It can make life feel fresh, lively and childlike again!

WE NEVER REALLY GROW UP
We just either lean into tension or become comfortable.
